Superheroes Have Feelings, Too
“Good morning,” Caleb says to me as I come down the stairs the next day.
It’s weird to have him speaking to me so readily, but I don’t hate it.
“Morning,” I return, feeling shy.
He keeps catching me off guard, totally leaving me defenseless. As if he didn’t have an advantage over me.
All the adults are gathered in the kitchen prepping breakfast, and Caleb—still in his pajamas—is sitting in my favorite reading chair with my dog and a book he took off my mom’s shelf behind him. He was already so gorgeous, and that book just makes him look more amazing. I wonder what Superman glasses would do to this scene. I have to hold my breath to keep myself from thinking about how much perfection that would be.
“Anna,” Mom calls from the kitchen.
I poke my head in, trying to get Caleb out of my brain, but not succeeding. Mom doesn’t turn around, just points to a box on our mail counter. “I think your contacts came.”
Yes! I’ll finally be able to see again, although my eyes might explode from the beauty that is Caleb.
I grab the box and run back upstairs to put them in. Finally, I can see things how I’m supposed to. The sad part is, I can’t imagine Caleb liking me the way I am. No, I tell myself, I will not think that way and ruin my time with him. If he likes me or not is irrelevant. I like him, and I can keep that to myself for three more days.
After trying to smooth out some fly-aways I turn to notice Caleb’s door wide open. The temptation to walk in there and see what he packed is sooo enticing, but I’m not a stalker.
I hear his bedroom door click open, and before I can retreat back to my room Caleb is standing in the frame, his back to me as he takes off his pajama shirt.
At first, my feet are glued to the ground, eyes wide.
Seriously, his body on screen is not made up. He really is that ripped. He slides his hands around the edge of his waistband like he’s about to take his pants off, but I can’t seem to move or look away.
“Stop!” I yell. “I can see you.”
Caleb turns around, full smile on his face. I’m surprised my new contacts haven’t ripped yet from the way my eyes are bulging.
“Anna,” he says in the most casual way, as if he doesn’t realize he’s a freaking god.
I have no words at all. The most I can hope for is that my drool is contained to the inside of my mouth.
“I wanted to ask you,” he continues, coming closer to me.
Yep, his nearness is not helping the speech receptors in my brain. I’m pretty sure he’s rendered me a mute. Goodbye talking, I enjoyed you.
He stops right in front of me, one hand leaning on the bathroom counter. All that position has done for him is shown off the amazing muscles in his arms.
